Because the IRS does not consider stock to be cash, your gift will be receipted as a non-cash donation.  As with all non-cash donations, the IRS does not allow the church to appraise the value of your stock.  We are not allowed to list the value on your donation receipt but rather verify that we have indeed received the donated item.  Your brokerage statement showing the value of your stock on the day it was donated is documentation of the value of your donation.  The IRS should accept this documentation and it should be kept in your files along with your donation receipt.

Because we receive multiple stocks from many donors, it is important to email midtownfinance@gfc.tv the following information so that your donation will be directed according to your wishes and so that you will be receipted accurately.

  • Name and email address

  • Number of shares of each stock donated

  • Approximate date of the transfer

  • Campus and any donor designations
