TITHE CHALLENGE

In Malachi 3:10, God says, “‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.’”

This is a rare passage of scripture, in that God asks his people to test him. The passage begins as a rebuke or correction, but quickly takes on the form of a promise. Today, we receive it as an invitation to live into the gracious provision God is making available to us. It is a way for us to open our lives up to the generosity of God toward us.

From May 1st through July 31st, 2023 we are challenging the people of Grace Midtown Church to take the promise of Malachi 3 seriously by testing God through the practice of tithing. “Specifically, we are asking people to try giving a full tithe (10% of your income) to the local church for 3 months, trusting that God will open the floodgates of heaven in new ways in your life.”

What is the tithe?: The Old Testament defines the tithe as the first tenth of the harvest, or the first 10% of a person’s income.

The best way to engage in this challenge is to set up a recurring gift on our giving page for the next three months. Of course, if there are other rhythms of giving that make more sense for your life, you can give one-time gifts at any time on our giving page.
